Petition: Ndlambe Ratepayers Pledge

Dear Ndlambe Mayor and Councilors

I, the undersigned Ratepayer of Ndlambe,

Resolve to hold the Ndlambe Municipality fully to account for aligning municipal rates and service charges with the 5-year, SALGA-negotiated wage deal for municipal workers.

The agreed wage increases are reasonable and necessary to help municipal workers manage their expenses and avoid financial hardship. By aligning municipal rates and service charges with these wage increases, we aim to ensure a fair balance between the needs of municipal workers and the financial burdens on ratepayers.

In practical terms this means municipal workers wages, rates, and service charges must be set as follows: 2024/2025: 6%, 2025/2026 and 2026/2027: CPI + 0.75%, 2027/2028 and 2028/2029: CPI + 1.25%

We urge the Mayor and Council of Ndlambe to urgently enter constructive dialogue with Ndlambe ratepayers to resolve the tradeoffs necessary to achieve this objective.

  • A perfect storm is coming to the Ndlambe municipality

South Africa faces a significant challenge in its municipalities. Additionally, a concerning number of councilors lack a matric qualification (one-third). These inexperienced municipal councils are being increasingly challenged by fiscal consolidation at the national…

  • Saving the ANC from collapse

The ANC has a problem with its business model. Having entered the era of power sharing, its system of patronage has become difficult to implement. Ironically, the best idea coming out of the ANC’s introspection is to use its state power to deliver services. (Literally, their best idea is to do their job). The plan…

  • Ndlambe Ratepayers – You need to pay attention

I am going to state the obvious. Nobody, inside or outside of the Ndlambe municipality, understands the new services tariff sheet. To make this point Ratepayers Revolt has been offering a generous reward to anybody who can show internal consistency in the calculations within the tariff sheet. The reward remains unclaimed. One of the easiest…
